JACKSON, Miss. (October 19, 2024) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, this past weekend and came home winning two of the three games in the Tougaloo Crossover. On Friday, they defeated the host Tougaloo College (6-15, 5-6 HBCUAC) in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, and 25-16).
On offense, Reagan Jones led a balanced attack with ten kills. Setter Trinity Britt assisted on 32 of the Lady Bulldog's 42 kills and had four kills herself. The HBCUAC leader in service aces, Nialah Gupton, added six aces and six digs. Jones also led all Fisk defenders with eight digs.
The nightcap was tough against West Division-leading Dillard University (13-7, 11-1 HBCUAC), as Fisk fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, and 25-17). Jones, Trinity Crawford, and Laila Esters all had six kills, with Britt helping on 25 of Fisk's 29 kills. On defense, Gupton scooped up ten digs, and conference leader in blocks Sydney Willis and La'Niyah Lumpkin combined for four blocks.
Fisk returned to their winning ways as they swept Southern University of New Orleans (4-15, 4-8 HBCUAC) (25-13, 25-21, and 25-18). Jones led all attackers with nine kills. Britt assisted on 21 kills, and Nialah Gupton had 21 digs, followed by Aaliyah Bethea's ten. The win gave Fisk their second straight 20-win season.
The Lady Bulldogs will finish their nine-game road trip with a trip to Memphis to take on Lemoyne-Owen College. They will finish their regular season with a home game against Oakwood University on Thursday and travel to take on Talladega University on Friday.
