The Fisk University Lady Bulldog volleyball team traveled to Ohio and Indiana this past weekend and came back winning two games out of three. Friday night, they took on HBCU Athletic Conference foe Wilberforce University and got the road win in straight sets (25-6, 25-12, and 25-15). Reagan Jones led all attackers with eight kills, while setter Trinity Britt registered a double-double of 12 assists and ten digs. Fisk had 25 aces, the most since 2015. Aaliyah Bethea led the team with seven.
On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs dropped the first set before taking the next three in their victory against the University of Northwest Ohio (17-25, 27-25, 25-20, and 25-17). After dropping the first set, it looked like UNOH would take a commanding 2+0 when they went up 22-19. Fisk scored the next three points to tie the game with Bethea serving. UNOH then scored the next two points to force set point. A Jones kill followed by a block assist for Jones and La'Niyah Lumpkin forced duece. After falling behind again, Jones and Lumpkin went to work to close out the set, with Lumpkin getting two kills and Jones getting one.
Jones led Fisk's balanced attack with a game-high 16 kills swinging at a .333 clip, Lumpkin had 13 on a blistering .526 hitting percentage, and Sydney Willis followed up the double figures in kills with ten. Trinity Crawford and Laila Esters chipped in with nine apiece. Britt ended the match with a career high 50 assists. On the defensive end, Nialah Gupton had a game-high 21 digs, Esters had 14, Jones and Bethea had 12, and Britt had ten, giving Jones and Britt double-doubles. Fisk dropped the third match of the weekend to host Indiana Tech (25-8, 25-18, and 25-10). Gupton had a game-high 15 digs.
This weekend, the Lady Bulldogs will look to remain undefeated in conference play when they travel to Tougaloo for a three game HBCUAC Crossover.
