Volley Dogs Head to Mississippi for HBCUAC Crossover

JACKSON, Miss. (October 17, 2024) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldog volleyball team will have another road challenge as take to the road once again, this time to Tougaloo, Mississippi for three HBCU Athletic Conference matches. The Lady Bulldogs (18-13, 10-0 HBCUAC) will try to stay undefeated in conference play, but it won't be easy.

On Friday, the Eastern Division leading Fisk will take on the host Tougaloo College (4-14, 3-5 HBCUAC) and Western Division leader Dillard University (10-7, 8-1 HBCUAC). Saturday they will match up against Southern University of New Orleans (2-14, 2-7 HBCUAC).

Two wins this weekend will give the Lady Bulldogs 20 wins for the second consecutive season. Although Fisk can't look ahead, three wins and a victory next week against Oakwood, would set up a huge matchup in their final regular season game on the road at Talladega. If the Lady Bulldogs win out, it will be the first Fisk University conference championship in the modern era.

Game 32: Fisk University (18-13, 10-0 HBCUAC) at Tougaloo College (4-14, 3-5 HBCUAC)

Playing the host team in a Crossover is never easy. This is the second matchup between the two schools this season. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Tougaloo 3-0 at Freed Hardeman in a nonconference match. Fisk will need to start fast and not take it easy for the anticipated showdown against Dillard. Neutralizing Tougaloo's balanced attack of Kaliyah Shavers and Lashaundria Chatman will be the key. Fisk's middle blocker Sydney Willis, along with front wall mates, La'Niyah Lumpkin and Trinity Crawford will need to be strong. Liberio Nialah Gupton will need to continue her steady play.

Game 33: Fisk University (18-13, 10-0 HBCUAC) vs. Dillard University (10-7, 8-1 HBCUAC)

Location: Tougaloo College | Jackson, Mississippi

All eyes from the conference will be watching this match between the two division leaders. Dillard has already clinched the western division championship, but has their eyes set on the regular season crown. Until last season, the series between the two schools had been dominated by Dillard. Fisk went 2-1 last season against Dillard, including a 3-1 win in the conference semi-finals. Dillard would love to make the top of the HBCUAC interesting with a win today.

Fisk will finish up the Crossover against SUNO. The Lady Bulldogs will once again have to start fast against a team they should beat. Look for outside hitter Reagan Jones and utility player Laila Esters to have a good game. They will rely on setter Trinity Britt to put them in great positions to score.
