Lady Bulldogs Fall in Championship Game
Jadyn Brackins and Iyanla Thigpen are named to the All-Tournament team.
SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, La. – The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (21-14) fell to the Talladega University Tornadoes in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16, in the 2023 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Volleyball Championship. This was the first time since Fisk joined the GCAC that a Bulldog team played in the championship game. Fifth-year head coach Jessica Enderle led her team to over 20 wins for the first team in the 21st century.
The Tornadoes earn an automatic bid to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 44th Annual Volleyball National Championship. Opening Round play begins November 18 at campus sites, followed by pool play November 29-December 1 and bracket play December 2-5. Fisk's only two seniors on the team, Jadyn Brackins and Iyanla Thigpen, were named to the All-Tournament team. Though Enderle is happy about the accomplishments, she wishes that Fisk could have kept the season alive.
"I love my team, and they gave us everything they had," said Enderle. "I am sure that Talladega will represent the conference well. Jadyn has been a force for us since she stepped on campus, and Yani has been one of the best middles in school history. We are relatively young, but we really wanted them to go out strong. This was a great tournament. We will be back."
In the contest, Nebthet Re recorded her second double-double in as many games with her 14 assist, 13 dig effort. Re finished the tournament with 89 assists in only ten sets. Gabrielle Huntley led Fisk in kills with seven. Kailynn Johnson chipped in with six. Brackins had a team-high 16 digs.
