Efficient Attack Fuels Lady Bulldogs to Quarterfinal Victory
GCAC Newcomer of the Year Iyanla Thigpen swings at .500 clip in straight set win over Wiley.
BOSSIER, La.-- Iyanla Thigpen converted eight of her 17 kills in the second set to give the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (20-13) a quarterfinal win over Wiley University in postseason action in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The victory allows the Lady Bulldogs to play the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils in the semi-finals.
"We haven't played in a week, so I was concerned about how we would play today," said Fisk head coach Jessica Enderle. We played well. I hope we can keep this going. Dillard is a tough team."
Fisk finished the match with a team .361 hitting percentage. GCAC Freshman of the Year Nebthet Re ran the offense well, setting up attackers with her match-high 37 assists. Defensively, Defender of the Year Jadyn Brackins had a match-high 16 digs, and Trinity Britt added 11.
The Lady Bulldogs and Dillard split their two matches this season, with both winning on their home court in straight sets. The match will be today, with the first serve at 6:00 p.m.
