WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Fisk University Gymnastics Team, a beacon of talent and determination, has achieved a significant milestone. Five of its athletes find themselves in the spotlight of the USAG Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Nationals. These exceptional individuals are slated to showcase their skills and compete for top honors on Friday, April 12, 2024. This achievement is a proud moment for Fisk University, reflecting the unwavering spirit and excellence of its gymnastics program.
"The ladies worked hard this year despite some huge odds," said Fisk Head Coach Corrinne Tarver. "I am proud of their determination and courage to make it this far. Making nationals is a great accomplishment. I am excited to see how they will match-up against the best of the best."
Among the qualifiers, Morgan Price is a versatile all-around contender. The sophomore demonstrates exceptional skill in every apparatus. Aliyah Reed-Hammon is set to compete with her powerful vault discipline. On the balance beam, Fisk will showcase the elegance and precision of sophomore Liberty Mora and freshman Aniyah Taylor. Completing this group of athletes is freshman Jada Reese who is expected to captivate the audience with her dynamic floor routine.
The trio of Mora, Price, and Reed-Hamnon are making their second trip in as many seasons to nationals, while the freshman trio duo of Reese and Taylor are making their debuts. To note, Ciniah Rosby, originally qualified for the Balance Beam and Vault, withdrew due to personal reasons, paving the way for teammate Taylor's inclusion in the competition.
With preparations in full swing for the individual qualifying round, there is palpable excitement for what is poised to be a landmark event for both Fisk University and the broader HBCU community. The competition will be held at the Hollinger Field House in West Chester, PA, unfolding across two sessions to accommodate the diverse talents of the Fisk University qualifiers.
This group of athletes is not just competing for individual accolades; they carry the hopes of making history by securing the program's first individual event national title and setting a precedent for HBCU gymnasts in both the event competitions and the all-around category. Their journey is a testament to the grit, dedication, and exceptional talent nurtured within the Fisk University Gymnastics Team.
Fans and supporters who are unable to attend in person will have the opportunity to tune into the action live through Virtus YouTube, ensuring no one misses out on cheering for these remarkable gymnasts as they strive for national recognition.
