DENMARK, S.C. (JANUARY 24, 2025) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs find themselves in a situation that they must win the rest on their conference games if they want a good seed for the HBCU Athletic Conference tournament.
With only five conference games left, all in the East Division, the Lady Bulldogs are sitting in third place, half a game behind Talladega, but only two games ahead in the loss column from Rust College, who sits with the most losses with eight. Saturday's matchup on the road against Voorhees University is huge for both teams.
"With games being postponed because of weather, we all have different number of games left," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "We have struggled lately and dropped some games we shouldn't have. These road games are crucial for us to make up ground. We have to be ready."
Turnovers have been the Achillies heal for Fisk all season. They are averaging 22.4 turnovers per game. Last time out, they committed 32 but were able to survive against Talladega. That was the fourth time this season that they had 30 or more. In the first game against Voorhees, they only committed 15, enroute to a 73-52 win.
This is a game where the Lady Bulldogs must get better at handling the ball. Voorhees have lost six in a row and will play better at home than they did in Nashville. Fisk will need their size advantage and pound the ball inside to Keeli Burton-Oliver and Dee Scott.

Look for Courtney Lumpkins to use her dazzling point guard skills to control the tempo. Her big three-point basket against Talladega on Thursday stretched the lead to ten, and Fisk was able to hold on.
Lady Dawgs at A Glance
Senior Leadership
The days of college players playing for four years at one school have become a loss art. The Fisk Women's Basketball Team has done a pretty good job of keeping players in school through their eligibility. With a mixture of returning players and transfers, Fisk started the season with nine seniors on their roster. The team heads into the second semester with seven.
Mya Robinson, Dee Scott and A'Niya Young are three holdovers from the highly decorated "Notorious Nine" recruiting class of 2021. They join Jayla Bibbs, Keeli Burton-Oliver, Courtney Lumpkins, and Ami McClow as the seven seniors.
Playing Big
The front court duo of Burton-Oliver and Scott have been a tough tandem in the paint for opponents. Burton-Oliver was named Newcomer of the Week two weeks ago. She scored 20 plus points in two of the three games that week. Scott has been a force on the defensive end and has raised her scoring average to 10.2 points per game.
UP NEXT: The Lady Bulldogs will be back home on Wednesday when they take on Johnson University in aa nonconference matchup.
