Defensive Battle Ends in a 53-46 Victory
TALLADEGA, Ala.- In a gripping and defensive contest, the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (7-13, 7-6 HBCUAC) emerged victorious over Talladega College (7-7, 7-5) with a final score of 53-46. The win marks an important moment for the Bulldogs as they achieve a season sweep over Talladega, positioning them just half a game behind their rivals in the HBCUAC's East Division.
Jayla Bibbs led the scoring for Fisk with 15 points. Her performance was complemented by Keeli Burton Oliver, who contributed 13 points to the team's total. Bibbs also dominated the boards, pulling down nine rebounds, which was crucial in maintaining the team's defensive edge throughout the game. Burton-Oliver helped out grabbing seven rebounds and rejecting six shots.
This hard-fought victory underscores the Bulldogs' determination and skill, highlighting their potential as the season progresses. The game's outcome not only boosts their standings but also sets the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.
The win is the fifth in a row in the series against Talladega. Fisk dropped the first 14 games between the schools. In all five wins, the Lady Bulldogs have not given up more than 50 points.
The Lady Bulldogs will now head to South Carolina to take on Voorhees College on Saturday.
