Lady Dawgs Defeat Talladega
Jayla Bibbs and Teniya Williams shine in conference win.
NASHVILLE (DECEMBER 5, 2024) –Jayla Bibbs scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, and freshman Teniya Williams scored a career-high 16 points as the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (3-4, 3-1 HBCUAC) defeated the Talladega College Lady Tornadoes (1-4, 1-1 HBCUAC) 69-47 in HBCUAC action from Nashville.
The win was especially impressive because Fisk was playing without starter Laila Eliotti and leading rebounder A'Niya Young. 19 of Bibbs' points came in the first half. Bibbs' 13 second quarter points helped to stretch the Fisk lead to 40-26 at the half. Williams got hot in the third quarter, scoring 11 points, helping her team to a 22-10 advantage in the quarter.
"After Thanksgiving break, we all got rejuvenated," said Bibbs. "This was a good start to the rest of the season. Personally, I have been lacking leadership. During the break I had time to think about being a better leader for my teammates. With Laila and Niya being out, I knew I had to step up."
Fisk shared the ball with great results. They had 20 assists on 25 made shots. Bibbs led the team with six assists. Courtney Lumpkins, who scored 13 points, dished out five helpers. The victory was the second in a row for the Lady Bulldogs. All wasn't great for Fisk, as they committed a season-high 30 turnovers. The game was the first start in Williams' career.
"We were missing people, so we had to step up for the team," said Williams. "I was excited to find out that I was starting. We still have a lot to work on. This was a good win."
The Lady Bulldogs will finish their three-game homestand with a conference game against Voorhees University on Saturday.
