Lady Dawgs Fall on Homecoming
Late comeback falls short in loss to Mobile.
NASHVILLE (November 9, 2024)— Jayla Bibbs scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Fisk Lady Bulldogs (0-2) fell to the University of Mobile (3-1) 62-59 in Homecoming play from Nashville. Mobile's defense was a key. They held Fisk's second-leading scorer Laila Eliotti to only four points.
"You can tell they scouted us well because of how they played Laila," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "They held her down, but others stepped up. We played well against a very good team, so I am happy with our effort. We got better; that's all I can ask for."
Fisk ran out to a ten-point lead with 4:10 left in the half on a Bibbs basket in the paint. A 12-2 Rams run between the end of the half and the start of the third quarter tied the score at 31 with 7:41 left in the third. Mobile kept the momentum, eventually increasing the lead by seven late in the third quarter.
The sellout crowd gave the Lady Bulldogs energy. After going down 11, they managed to cut the lead to one, going on a 12-2 run, fueled by six points by A'Niya Young (ten points and ten rebounds). With Fisk down by three, Crawford called an inbounds play for Mya Robinson, who got a clean look at a potential tying three-point shot, but the ball rolled off the rim as time expired.
Keeli Burton-Oliver added 12 points, and Dee Scott added 11. Fisk will travel to Alabama for three games this week, starting with HBCUAC foes Oakwood (Thursday) and Stillman (Saturday). They will finish the swing with a game on Sunday at NCAA DI Samford.
