Balanced Attack Helps Lady Dawgs Go to the Semis
Five Fisk players in double figures was the key to advancing.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Zipporah Davis scored 13 points and Jayla Bibbs added 12 points and nine rebounds as the Fisk Lady Bulldogs (19-8) defeated the Talladega College Lady Tornadoes (9-18) 67-49 in the quarterfinal play in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
"It is never easy beating a team three times and Talladega showed that today," said Fisk Head Coach Victoria Crawford. "The game was closer than the score indicated. We were up the whole game but finally put them away late. As I have said all season, we have to clean up our turnovers if we are going to succeed."
Fisk committed 26 turnovers in the game and forced 22. Three other players scored in double figures, with Maya Buckhanon and Liz Gibbs scoring 11 points, and De 'Lesia Scott adding 10 points off the bench.
The Lady Bulldogs took a 53-33 lead in the fourth quarter after holding the Lady Tornadoes to only eight third-quarter points. Talladega ran out to a 10-2 run to start the final stanza to cut the lead to 53-45. Fisk finished the game by scoring 14 of the last 18 points to get the win.
Fisk will now take on the number two-seeded Philander Smith University Lady Panthers. The two teams split the season series with both winning at home.
