DENMARK, S.C. (JANUARY 22, 2025) – With five regular season games left, the Fisk University Men's Basketball team is looking to finish strong before the postseason begins. After a tough road loss to Talladega College on Thursday, they will now look to start a winning streak on Saturday when they take on Voorhees University in Denmark, South Carolina.
"It is getting down to it and we need to play better to be ready for the postseason," said Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "We can't seem to put together consecutive games playing well. For a chance to win the tournament, we will have to win three, maybe four games. We need to have a tournament mentality right now."
After a 30-point night by Justin McNelkan on Tuesday against Arkansas Baptist College, it was Doyel Cockrill III's chance to put up big numbers. Against Talladega, he had 27 points and seven assists. Cockrill III's 22 points in the second half kept the team in the game.
Fisk will need to try to slow down Keshawn Evans who is averaging double figures in points and rebounds this season. Evans might have to contend with a number a different Bulldogs to try to keep him at bay. Defensive stopper Lucious Jackson is potentially the main Fisk defender that will be guarding Evans.

This is the type of game that Mitch Seay plays well in. With Voorhees not having a post presence, Seay can use his slashing style to get to the basket and go to the free throw line.

He leads the conference with 58 made three pointers.
Coming From the Ashes
Grad student Michael Ashley made a last-minute decision to enroll into graduate school and continue his college career. Though he was undecided, Ashley stayed in the gym and weightroom during the offseason. The Atlanta native's 98 defensive rebounds is second in the HBCUAC in conference play.
