Lady Dawgs Close Down Homestand with a Tilt Against Voorhees
NASHVILLE (December 7, 2024) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs are on a bit of a roll. Fisk (3-4, 3-1 HBCUAC) have won their last two games, both confer3nce wins at home. Today, they will take on one of the newest schools in conference, the Voorhees University Lady Tigers (5-1, 1-1) to finish their three-game homestand (1 p.m. Fisk Athletics YouTube) for a chance take sole passion of second place in the HBCU Athletic Conference's Eastern Division.
"We have won the last three of four games, all division games," said head coach Victoria Crawford. "While that is big, we can't lose ground on Stillman. Winning our home games has been our goal. We still have some things to shore up. I'm not all the way happy with our overall play."
On Thursday, with two starters out, Crawford got a huge lift from veteran Jayla Bibbs, and freshman Teniya Wiliams. Bibbs had a monster game of 21 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. Williams scored a career-high of 16 points, 11 in the second half to keep Talladega at bay. Both players will be called upon again as injured player Laila Eliotti, and A'Niya Young will be gametime decisions.
KEY MATCHUP
Voorhees leads the league in opponents points against per game giving up a stingy 53.5. Fisk will need to pound the ball inside to Dee Scott and Keeli Burton-Oliver who pose a significant size difference. Bibbs will need to try to slow down Ty'Shemia Bunkley who is averaging 17.0 points per game.
