Dawgs Open Conference Against Rival Oakwood
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (November 14, 2024) – The Fisk University Bulldog basketball team will jump into HBCU Athletic Conference play tonight when they take on the Oakwood University Ambassadors in Huntsville, Alabama (7 p.m. HBCU Plus).
Fisk (2-3) lost to NCAA DI Alabama A&M on Wednesday 103-69. A&M size and length gave the Bulldogs problems all night. HBCU Athletic Conference leading scorer Doyel Cockrill III led Fisk with 22 points. Sophomore Solomon Mustafa-Reid added 13 points and eight rebounds, both career highs for the Atlanta native. Junior Justin McNelkan chipped a career high 12 points, all coming from behind the arc. Fisk got a pleasant surprise from freshman Chase Bell, a Huntsville native who had nine points in eight minutes,
"The pre-conference was a way for us to see who would be ready for conference play," said Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "Some guys earned some minutes because of their hard work. This is what we worked hard for. No excuses from here on out."
KEY MATCHUP
Fisk will need to neutralize Jeray Randle and Jordan Bell. Randle, a sophomore guard from Climax, Ga., is averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He has a team high of 14 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Bell, a senior forward from Mobile, is averaging 10 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Look for Mark Cooper, Mitch Seay, and Lucious Jackson to rotate on Oakwood's dynamic duo.
