Dawgs Fall to Alabama A&M
Cockrill III scored 22 in loss to NCAA DI school.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (November 13, 2024) – HBCU Athletic Conference Player of the Week Doyel Cockrill III scored 22 points, but it was not enough, as the Fisk University Bulldogs (2-3) fell to NCAA DI Alabama A&M (3-0) 103-69 in Huntsville, Alabama.
A&M's size was too much for the scrappy Fisk team. The Bulldogs were outrebounded 47-37 and A&M outscored Fisk in the paint 48-22.
Sophomore Solomon Mustafa-Reid scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Both are career highs for him. Junior Justin McNelkan scored his career high with 12. Fisk received a huge lift off the bench from freshman Chase Bell who is from Huntsville. He scored nine points in only eight minutes.
"This was another chance for us to get better," said Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "They pressed us, and we didn't handle that well. Their length in the paint had us scrambling as well. Playing teams like this gives us an opportunity to see who wants minutes. I have a better idea of how we will handle our rotations."
The Bulldogs will stay in Huntsville and take on Oakwood University in their first HBCUAC game of the season on Thursday.
