Dawgs Head to Alabama for Three Game Road Trip
Fisk to play two consecutive games in Huntsville, then travel to Tuscaloosa.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (November 13, 2024) – The Fisk University Bulldog men's basketball team is on a high. In the four games they have played this season, they won their first road game and their first home game this past Saturday for Homecoming. Those two wins are sandwiched around losing to the NAIA defending champion Freed Hardeman and NCAA DI Tennessee State University.
This week, on their three-game road trip in Alabama, Fisk (2-2) will attempt a few more firsts. On Wednesday, they will be heavy underdogs against NCAA DI Alabama A&M. A victory against them would start Fisk's first winning streak of the season. On Thursday they will stay in Huntsville and play in their first HBCU Athletic Conference game against Oakwood University. They will finish the trip in Tuscaloosa for another conference game against Stillman College.
"We are in the thick of things now, so it is getting interesting," said Fisk first-year head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "Homecoming was big, and we needed that one. This week will give us a barometer of who we are. I'm ready, I hope the team is."
A&M (2-0) comes into the matchup with averaging 112 points per game. Their two wins have come against Oakwood, Fisk's opponent on Thursday and Arkansas Baptist, Fisk's opponent on November 26. Our WMG "Pick2Click" is junior shooting guard Justin McNelkan. McNelkan shot well at TSU. A&M's arena is set up similarly.
KEYS TO THE MATCH:
Fisk needs to weather the storm early and try to stay in the game at the half. A&M is bigger, but Fisk has some good shooters. Ty Jackson and Michael Ashley will need to stay out of foul trouble.
Cockrill III Wins Second Consecutive Newcomer of the Week Honor
For the second time in as many weeks, Doyel Cockrill III won the HBCU Athletic Conference's Newcomer of the Week for the fifth time this season, her second in a row. The transfer from Cumberland University scored 35 points on 10-of-18 shooting in Fisk's Homecoming win against Midway University.
