Second-Half Lapse Give Bulldogs Third-Straight Loss
Blake Goodman and Tyon Thompson combine for 53 points in the loss to Clark Atlanta.
ATLANTA – The Fisk Bulldogs used a 13-2 run in the second half to take a 49-43 lead but ran out of gas in the 89-72 loss on the road to HBCU foe the Clark Atlanta Panthers. For the third game in a row, Fisk (1-5) got a huge effort from Blake Goodman, who led all scorers with 30 points and ten rebounds. Tyon Thompson chipped in with 23 points. The Bulldogs looked lethargic down the stretch. For head coach Kenny Anderson, that does not justify his team's not playing well.
"We can't use playing three games in four days as an excuse; we have to play better," said Fisk head coach Kenny Anderson. I set the schedule up like this to see what needs to be done in the postseason. We had them on the ropes and let them off. We shot 30 free throws, which is good. We have to learn how to finish."
A 13-0 Clark run started the onslaught. After a Goodman three cut the lead to 56-52 at 10:56, the Panthers went on a 10-0 run to vertically put the game out of reach. Clark's 17-6 run gave the Panthers their biggest lead at 87-63. Clark outscored Fisk 56-43 in the second. Off the bench, the Bulldogs were outscored 53-3. Michael Ashley (eight points) had a game-high 11 rebounds, barely missing a double-double in his return to Atlanta.
Fisk will return home to enjoy the Thanksgiving break before playing Saturday and Sunday in the Bethel Thanksgiving Classic.
