Goodman's Big Night Not Enough in Loss to EWC
Blake Goodman scores 24 in loss to HBCU foe Edward Waters
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Blake Goodman scored 24 points but couldn't get much help offensively, as the Fisk Bulldogs (1-3) fell to Edward Waters 74-55 in The Bill Penny Classic in Huntsville, Alabama. Goodman shot 8-of-15 from the floor, but the rest of the team shot 13-of-35 combined in the loss. The Bulldogs kept in close in the first half and were up 27-21 after two Goodman free throws. With 4:56 left in the first half, Goodman hit a three-point basket on an assist from Tyon Thompson to make it 32-25 Bulldogs for their largest lead of the game. A 10-5 EWC run to close the half cut the Bulldog lead to 37-35 at the break.
"We seem to struggle at the end of the first half for some reason," said Fisk head coach Kenny Anderson. "We were still in the game, but they had the momentum going into the half. We
need to figure that out."
EWC continued their surge after the break, outscoring the Bulldogs 16-2 to open the half. Fisk couldn't get any closer than ten as they were held to 18 second-half points. Michael Ashley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Besides Goodman going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, the Bulldogs could only muster 3-of-7 from the rest of the team. All three made free throws came from the bench.
