22 Current and Six Former Athletes Honored at Fisk’s 150th Commencement
Women’s golfer Okolo gives Class of 2024 Valedictorian address.
NASHVILLE – The day was overcast but it was bright and shiny inside of The House of God Church-Keith Dominion in Nashville as 28 current and former athletes from Fisk University received their degrees during the 150th Commencement services.
Athletic director Valencia Jordan's banner first year concluded with a member of the women's golf team Dabeluchukwu Okolo becoming the first Fisk athlete to be named valedictorian and Breyana Daniels becoming the first gymnast to compete and graduate from a Historically Black College and University.
"In my thirty plus years in Athletics Administration, my first Fisk University Commencement experience was one of the most impressive and exciting moments," said Jordan. "I am in awe of the brilliance and range of talent and gifts from the collective group. The class of 2024 has certainly set the bar high for our future Fiskites."
Daniels and Okolo accomplishments were among the 23 honor society awards given out. Former members of the athletic department, Bobbi Crosby, KaTia Cummings, Skye Faucher, Amaya Howard, Aaliyah Riddle and Dozier Thomas also earned their degrees. Ariel Long and Faucher earned their master's degrees.
