Four Dawgs Prepare for Conference Championships
Jackie Bownes to defend her titles in two events.
SHREVEPORT, La. (April 10, 2025) – In his initial press conference, Fisk University Bulldog head track & field coach Marcelle Scales vowed to bring stability back to Fisk in the sport. The first-year coach will have his first chance to make some noise this weekend, as he sends four individuals to the HBCU Athletic Conference's Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana.
"Track is a gateway sport, so it is important to get it right for the whole program," said Scales. "We can make athletes faster, stronger and jump higher. The four we are bringing this weekend have prepared hard for this. We want to make a good showing for future, and let all the athletes on campus know that we can help them as well."
The lone male athlete competing for the Bulldogs is junior A'Sah Glenn. Glenn came to Fisk as a prolific basketball player, that ran track. Now in his third season, he will be making his first trip to the championships. Glenn will compete in the 400 and 800-meter races.
Senior Jackie Bownes is no stranger to the conference championships. She will be looking for her third championship in a row in the discus and shot put. She added javelin and hammer to her repertoire this season. Like Glenn, junior Sydney Johnson came to Fisk as a basketball player. Her career has been plagued by injury. This season, Johnson decided to go back to her first love, field events. She was an NCAA DI prospect in high school in the javelin.
After sitting out last season, Daisjah Ball is back and will be competing in the 200- and 400-meter races.
The event will take place at Lee Hedges Stadium 6115 E Kings Hwy, Shreveport, LA 71105
The meet will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network's YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@hbcuplus?si=_uX6V8vhvYCrmyq
